Why batts fall, and how we keep them up.

Under the house, batts often end up hanging or lying on the dirt. Usually they were never held up properly, got damp, or were pulled down by rodents. Fallen batts don't insulate the floor at all.

We take out the old, fallen batts, fit new ones snug between the joists and hold them in place with metal wire supports, so they stay up against the floor.

Materials and R-values.

We install any R-value, for any insulation type, based on what you ask for and what we recommend at the free inspection. It depends on the area: thicker in the attic, thinner in the crawl space.

Batts come in set thicknesses for each R-value. Under the floor we fit them snug between the joists and hold them up with metal wire supports, so they stay against the floor instead of sagging.

  • R-38most common in the attic
  • R-19most common in the crawl space, under the floor
  • R-13to R-15, most common in walls

Questions, answered.

Cellulose or batts: which is better for me?

It depends on the space. Cellulose is our main attic insulation and is blown across the attic floor. Batts fit well under floors in crawl spaces and between framing. We recommend one at the free inspection and list it on the quote.

How are batts priced?

They are priced by the size of the space, after the free inspection. You get a written quote the same day as the inspection. 10% off when you book multiple services, or $300 off any job over $2,000 (one discount per job).

How are the batts held up?

With metal wire supports between the joists, so the batts stay pressed up against the floor and don’t fall onto the dirt.

How long does a batt insulation job take?

It is a one-day job.

What R-value do you install?

Any R-value you ask for, and we recommend one at the free inspection. Most common: R-19 under the floor in a crawl space, R-38 in the attic, and R-13 to R-15 in walls.

Can you replace the batts and the vapor barrier together?

Yes. New batts and a white vapor barrier can go in the same visit, along with crawl space cleaning. Two or more services get 10% off (one discount per job).

Do you take the old batts away?

Yes. Old, fallen or soiled batts come out and leave with us, and the area is cleaned up before the new batts go in.

How do you protect my home on job day?

The crew covers the path from your front door to the work areas with drop cloths or plastic sheeting: the floors, and some walls where needed. Old material and debris go out with us.

Do I need to be home on the job day?

Yes, please be home. It also helps to clear the path to the work areas of breakable items, like pictures and vases.
