What a vapor barrier does, and where it goes.

It goes on the ground under your home, in the crawl space.

  • Covers the bare soil. Sheeting over the soil under the house, so ground moisture stays down.
  • Wrapped around the piers. The sheeting is wrapped around the piers, not just laid around them.
  • A cleaner crawl space. The space stays cleaner and is easier to inspect later.
  • Pairs well with other work. It can go in the same visit as crawl space cleaning, new batts or new ducts. Two or more services get 10% off (one discount per job).

What we did

Rodent proofing with the roof and outside openings sealed, traps set, the crawl space and garage sanitized, and a vapor barrier laid over the soil under the house.

Questions, answered.

What does a vapor barrier do?

It covers the bare soil under the house, so ground moisture stays down instead of rising into the crawl space air. The space also stays cleaner and easier to check.

Do you clean the crawl space first?

Yes. Debris and old sheeting come out first so the new barrier lies flat. Full crawl space cleaning can be added to the same job.

How is it priced?

It is priced by the size of the crawl space, after the free inspection. You get a written quote the same day as the free inspection. 10% off for multiple services (one discount per job).

How long does a vapor barrier job take?

It is a one-day job.

What color is the barrier?

White.

Do you wrap the piers?

Yes. The sheeting is wrapped around the piers, not just laid around them.

Can you add insulation under the floor at the same time?

Yes. The most common under the floor is R-19 batts, held up with metal wire supports. Two or more services get 10% off (one discount per job).

How do you protect my home on job day?

The crew covers the path from your front door to the work areas with drop cloths or plastic sheeting: the floors, and some walls where needed. Old material and debris go out with us.

Do I need to be home on the job day?

Yes, please be home. It also helps to clear the path to the work areas of breakable items, like pictures and vases.
